Corporate responsibility

The National Australia Bank Group supports a range of community initiatives globally and in 2008, spent $33.5 million on programs to assist the communities in which we operate.

Wholesale Banking provides additional support and opportunities for our employees, to enable them support their passion and facilitate their involvement in a range of community organisations.

We offer:

Matched Fundraising

Matched Fundraising is available to employees who participate or initiate a fundraiser on behalf of a charity. Wholesale Banking will match the amount raised, up to $5,000 for individuals and up to $10,000 for teams.

Examples of our support include

  • A Melbourne employee participated in a charity bike ride raising $3400 for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.
  • Employees from our Hong Kong office raised over $7,500 for Green Power, a charity which protects the environment and educates local children.
  • Wholesale Banking employees raised over $300,000 through individual and team fundraising initiatives for Victorian Bushfire Relief. (In this instance, all funds were matched by Wholesale Banking)

Employee Community Grants

Employees can apply for a grant of up to $1,500 on behalf of an organisation in their community. Organisations supported include schools, sporting groups, kindergartens and community groups.

The evaluation process takes into account the community impact and benefit to the organisation/project.

Volunteering

All NAB employees are eligible for a minimum of two days volunteer leave per year.

To June 2008, NAB used 8,772 volunteer days group-wide, an in-kind contribution of $2.76 million to the community.

Employees can choose from a range of both skilled and unskilled opportunities from NAB’s volunteer planner or work with our corporate responsibility team to develop their own opportunity, in line with NAB’s volunteering guidelines.

Community Partnerships

Wholesale Banking supports a number of community organisations.

Earthwatch

Earthwatch is an international environmental not-for-profit organisation that supports scientific field research and conservation education.

Each year, Wholesale Banking sends 10 employees on expeditions around the world. Our involvement helps support the work of Earthwatch and provides opportunity for employees to develop their leadership capabilities and strategic awareness through challenging and unfamiliar experiences.

The program allows employees to have a greater understanding of environmental and ecological issues and use this knowledge to enhance their interaction with stakeholders and assist in their daily decision making.
